Hello there,
I have been looking at Harmony software for some time and it has appealed to me for some time. But I have not the made the leap of faith yet because I need a solution that will work on Microsoft Home Server.
Does anyone have it working on this OS yet or when will a version be released that is compatible with it?
Also, is the CCTV server idiot proof? I have 4 linksys IP cameras setup at my holiday home. Are there any known issues with these cameras and Harmony?
Regards,
D.

Hi D,
Yes, a number of members are running Harmony on WHS - a quick search should turn up the relevant posts.
re:CCTV - as long as the cameras supply an MJPEG stream, they'll work with CCTV Server. You may gave to access a specific URL in order to switch them to mjpeg mode - - - specific instructions involve Google and some time :-)
Of course, feel free to download the CCTV Trial, to test with your camera(s) - that's what it's there for :-)
Even if the cameras appear not to work initially - it doesn't mean they can't be made to work - it's just a matter of knowing how (and that varies my model/firmware revision etc).
1 fellow member had problems with a linksys camera, he even sent it to me to test, and I failed - so sometimes it isn't possible.
A new version of CCTV Server will be available at some point (no ETA - it's on the "dev road map", but not with any specific date) - one of the main areas I'll be focussing on is improving support for different cameras.
Kind regards,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Thanks for coming back to me and also for the information.
Can you recall the model of the camera that did not work.
I cannot recall the models of cameras I have in the house, but I know there are 2 different models. And I am currently looking at a Trendnet camera for outside the house.
Rgds,
D

Hi,
Camera in question is a Linksys WVC54G. I cant check the firmware version at the moment (have decorators in - very little tech plugged in! yes, I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms, and nearly broke my neck on several occasions when the lights didn't detect my presence :s)
Hope that helps -and remember - grab the trial version to test - it's free :-)
Also, a search on here for WHS brings up all you'll need to know. approx 11 results - start at the bottom.
Rob

Thanks Rob. I will be at the house in a few weeks for a 10 day break. I will have loads of time to play then when I have the cameras.
Thanks again.

Hi D,
For your information, I use a RD-9404 pci card which works with most wired cameras, and Harmony finds it easily.

Hi Chris,
See - proof I've not sold your camera on fleabay
Homer - - is this.....*rubs eyes*...surely not....an oversight by Lord Homer of Harmony? If so, it must be a first!! Enquiry is about IP cams. Sorry if I've missed something - - that *wouldn't* be a first!

Nope,
No oversight there your Honour. I was merely pointing out to the defendant that there were alternative methods that worked out of the box
Those IP cams - pah ! Work of the divil I tell ya

To be honest Rob i probably wouldn't care if you did sell it on Fleabay
it wasn't a good camera anyway
but keep it as long as you need to for dev testing
