ooh - AV Connections (no pun intended) - very handy
Word to the wise - if you can get a mixer on "trial or return" (along with Mics), please do so.
I've *personally* found that a good quality headset is by far the best input for any speech/voice recognition scenario.
Room Mics tend to pick up ambient noise, leading to inaccurate recognition.
Mixers need to be very clever, muting ambient noise from vacant rooms, cleanly presenting the spoken word from the desired rooms.
"sure" or "Shure" is a name that springs to mind - I *think* it was used in a positive context! :s
"Crown" also spring to mind, but can't remember if they were Mics or Mixers, or good or bad :s
I guess what I'm trying to say is - in my opinion - it's not worth spending a fortune on mics and mixers if they don't do the job. You need to give them a decent test-run before committing. (leave a radio on in one room, TV in another, and try to speak-control from a third).
If you do find a good solution - I'd love to hear about it. (If you're other half supplies them, he might earn a tidy commission )
At the end of the day, the goal is to feed a "clean as possible" signal (your voice) to the input on your PC's soundcard. Quite how you achieve that is an exercise best left to the reader
Good luck,
Rob

Not at present, though I'll note it as a feature request for future releases.
Thanks,

I have a small questions regarding the new component
Does the voice rec software sit on the harmony server or can it go on another machine
Thanks
Gareth

It can be installed on any PC that has network access to the Harmony Server (TCP 3131).
Please note the requirement for "US Recognizer 6.1" to be installed on the Voice Rec Host - It appears to be a part of the Office 2003 installation - I've yet to find another source for it. Other users have reported success with V8.1 (Again US, not UK) on Vista PCs
Hope this helps,
Rob

Excellent, I hope the IR component will be the same. I'll purchase voice rec as soon I get chance.
Is everyone using it with a headset?

IR: It will (unless I find any technical reason to prevent this - looks good so far!)
headset: me, yes - find it much better than an open mic.

Hey
i managed to get a bluetooth headset to work with mine.
just get a bluetooth dongle set the headset up as a headset device then in audio devices make sure you change the mic and audio to bluetooth device then fingers crossed it should work.
I am also well the other half is looking into sourcing some good mics so can have one in each room connected to a mixer then to the pc

Gareth,
Does that satisfy you? Ready to order? ;)
Chris - do please let us know how you get in with the room mics + mixer, genuinely interested in the result, and the kit used, as I'm *considering* something similar myself.
Thanks,
Rob
